Monday Move: Kettlebell Swing

Today’s Monday Move is the kettlebell swing. Want to know how to properly perform a kettlebell swing? You’ve come to the right place!

Miles is totally flipping the bird in this picture. 🙂

The kettlebell swing can be one of the best posterior chain exercises of all time if done properly. Hello nice butt and strong hamstrings! It is stellar for increasing power, athletic performance, and cardiovascular stamina.

What’s not to love about this total body movement? Perhaps the only thing is that it can be complicated and good form is imperative to avoid injury and obtain maximal benefits. The kettlebell swing is a movement initiated by the hips. NOT the arms. You will mess up your shoulders if you don’t use your hips, and don’t engage your lats when executing the movement. Check out this video on proper kettlebell technique. Learn how to use your breath for power and to tone and tighten your core. This is especially important for us moms with diastasis recti and pelvic floor issues.

Please let me know if you have questions, or would like me to feature a particular exercise in the next Monday Move.
